What is G.I.R.L. Power!™?
G.I.R.L. stands for Grappling Intensive Resistance and Locking, and was developed by Jeff
Wooten as a way of teaching techniques to females which give the practitioner the knowledge to
defend herself and protect her loved ones from enemies. The techniques are based upon the joint
locks and chokes (caled "Chin Na") found in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Hung Gar Kung Fu, in which you use multiple body
parts as a lever to overwhelm one joint on an opponent. The result is you obtain absolute control
over your opponent through the pain of a joint lock or by shutting off the blood flow and air to the
brain.
As compared to men, women carry a larger percentage of their overall body strength in their hips and
legs. Therefore, G.I.R.L. Power!™ contains many techniques which emphasize the use of the hips and legs
for defense and offense. For example, in "The Triangle" (shown above), Mary uses her legs to put Jeff
in a helpless position (even though Mary is actually on the bottom), because he can no longer effectively
attack her. Moreover, the extreme pressure from both of Mary's legs, her hips, and Jeff's own arm, shut off
the air and blood flow to Jeff's brain. Once the Triangle is applied, your attacker is unconscious in
just a few seconds, giving you time to escape. The following are concepts that you will learn in this course:
How to be aware of your surroundings and situations:
This is the first step to understanding
true personal self defense. When you know what to look for, you can avoid potentially dangerous
situations. No self defense program will make you into a superwoman, so you must learn to identify
possible danger before an attack happens. With the confidence that G.I.R.L. Power!™ gives you, you
will learn to recognize "possibilities" in any situation that you see.
How to effectively Defend and Escape:
Sometimes, an attack may be unavoidable. When an attack happens, it will likely catch you off guard.
Once more, you must assume that the attacker is larger and stronger than you are, and can hit harder.
Therefore, it isn’t reasonable or realistic to believe you can kick or punch your way out of an attack.
The techniques in this course aren’t based upon kicking or punching as are most other self defense classes
for women. Strikes are useless when you are on the ground, which is where you will likely end up in a real
attack. The techniques that you will learn in this course are based upon simplicity and leverage, and do
not require strength, speed or coordination. Therefore, the techniques can be employed by women of any age
or size, regardless of her level of fitness. The techniques also give the student an instant response to a
variety of attacks.
Program Format
Students will learn skills and techniques in a relaxed atmosphere, and each student will drill until she is
comfortable and able to employ the techniques instantly. In the end, the students will have learned to overcome
the “initial panic response” that usually accompanies sudden attacks. The students will learn how to reverse an
attack, effectively disable the attacker, and escape.
Meet Your Instructor
Jeff Wooten has been studying martial arts since 1987. He is a certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructor under legendary
Ultimate Fighting Champion Royce Gracie, who was once considered the “world’s toughest man.” Jeff has also trained
under Rorion Gracie, the leader of the Gracie family and current procurator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, which is considered
by many to be one of the most effective martial arts in existence today. Jeff studied Hung Gar Kung Fu under Jamal
Al-Bakkar for 12 years, and continues to practice this art today. Hung Gar employs powerful joint locks to the fingers,
wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, back, knees, and feet. The techniques in this course are based
upon the skills and techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Hung Gar Kung Fu. Jeff can be contacted at 919-606-2149 by
